If a pc running Vista is in sleep mode AND plugged into a power socket, Windows update can wake the pc to update online. I'm not sure if other scheduled program updates such as antivirus,antispyware etc can do this too. I was actually reading the section on Windows Updates in "Windows Vista Inside Out" by Ed Bott (et al) while listening to your show.
